My best friends dad was an Elder, and it was always fun to go to the visiting congregations (out of the usual rut you know) and he made it very clear that we had to stay until the meeting was over so he could give the prayer.

Nancy,
I am sorry to hear about your situation. It really does sound like she has a mental problem. She is probably very bitter because you married her son, and now she feels like she has lost him.
I have family members that act this same way. The problem is, they don't address issues, they hide from them. See if your husband will go with you to talk to her. It will be very uncomfortable for you all, but they must be addressed. She really sounds like she need some medication, though.
Again, my heart goes out to you. She is not acting in a very Christianly manner.

My mother thinks she is one of the anointed. I always thought it was weird. Her explaination was "she knew" but my Dad wasn't a witness and our home life was awful. Maybe she did it to feel special. As a matter of fact, we had quite a few people in our hall that partook, maybe they were a little thirsty and needed a snack....

Price of gas....
by Atilla inthe price of gasoline sure is getting high, in my area it is about $1.65, i guess not too bad compared to other areas.
i'm not too worried because my camry gets pretty good gas mileage and i don't usually have to commute too far.. however, i think this summer it may reach over $2 in many areas.
i just wonder how this will affect summer aux.

We complain because we drive cars or SUV's that get about 13 miles to the gallon! I just went to the gas station today (Sheetz) and paid 1.74 and I was very sad

Witnesses Are Always Made To Feel They're Not Doing Enough
by minimus inone way the watchtower gets into people's heads is by making them feel that they're unworthy, not good enough, inferior.
" that is the chant of circuit overseers and elders all around the world.
nobody could keep up the pace that the watchtower has given its followers.

I remember standing at the top of the stairs at the DC 1985 in Cicero, IL at lunch break and looking at my mom and saying "what is the use, I am going to die anyway" after some talk. I was 14 going on 15 then!
I never lost that feeling. It is so comforting to know that I wasn't crazy and that others felt the same way. I am 33 years old with children of my own wondering how my mother could continue bringing us some place that made her children feel so hopeless.

Most commun cars in your congregation
by JH inin your former congregation, what models of cars were the most commun?.
in my congregation, there was a time in the late 80's, that just about everybody had a dodge aries.
it seemed to be an inexpensive decent size car for the service, then a few years later, many had volkswagen jettas, a little more expensive.... i was the type to get a red, 2 door car.

Volvo, Jetta, Cadillac & Toyota were very popular. I remember going to buy my first car with my Dad (who wasn't a witness) and telling him I wanted a K car. I thought it would be nicer for service. My father still makes fun of me for saying that. I ended up with a Camaro!

Ozzie's Weekend Poll #87 (Remember the Kingdom Songs?)
by ozziepost inso how's things been going this weekend?
for us it was good to catch up with an old friend http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/69086/1.ashx.

I remember the pink ones, they were flexible and they had guilded edges. The gold always came off on your hands.
I haven't thought about the songs for a very long time. My mother was very "show-biz" and used to make all of us kids get togther and sing for the traveling Overseer when he would come visit.
My brother would always make up different words and we would start laughing and get "the eyes" from the sister playing the piano.

I am new here and this is wonderfull!
Please add: "You can smell Armageddon coming, it's like bad rain"
If I have to hear this one more time from my mother I think I will puke! By the way, my mom is the sister who repeats your answer better than you, and you need to add the description of the "young teen-age man who is only there because his mother has to drag him out of bed. He is the guy who is secretly popular in high school, his hair touches the back of his sports jacket, plays sports, has girl friends but at the KH he gives his one answer per meeting to get his mother, Elder, person who is studying with him off of his back OR he tries to melt into the chair hoping that NOBODY sees him.

Hi, I have been reading this board for the last three weeks. My husband at first couldn't understand why I keep on reading. It was an actual obsession I think. I have not been to a meeting in about 8 years.I, like so many others grew up a JW, my mom, brother and his family, uncle and his family still are. I am married to a non-jw which I believe is my saving grace. I was df'd at 18 came back after I was married and had a child because I didn't know how to raise a child "in the world" and I was so fearful of what would "happen" to him. What a joke. After about 3 months we ran. I couldn't believe how things had "changed" - many of the things that I remember growing up were now being taught differently. And I was not feeling the LOVE that is supposed to be so prevalant. I remember attending the Memorial for the first time after years and having an elders wife say to her elders wife daughter how they "couldn't believe how many people showed up only for the memorial and didn't go to any other meetings, why would they even bother coming." Basically, that reminded me of so many other complete asses that attend the meetings and I called my mom and told her there was no way in hell I was ever going back. He answer was that this "sister" was just a person and we can't judge the organization on imperfect people. What a crock! How else are we supposed to see the "love", right? Am I crazy here? any way- I just wanted to say that reading this board has really helped me see the light. I have prayed and prayed for the answer- you know, "is it the truth, show me if it's the truth" prayer. Guess what- I found this board the next day. Thanks for letting me ramble- I guess I needed to find a place where people actually understand the psychological abuse that happens with the JW's. By the way- what is a dub?
